CALL FOR PAPERS: Please join us for Kalfou’s third annual article workshop, an event where we gather together to develop exciting new projects for submission to the journal. This year, we are accepting full-length article drafts on ANY topic relating to our publication mission (below).

Just as Kalfou seeks to build links among artists, activists, and researchers in the struggle for social justice, the event will create a space for participants to develop their ideas in a dialogic workshop format.

  • Participants will receive constructive feedback from members of Kalfou’s illustrious editorial boards in preparation for submission to the journal.
  • Anyone is welcome! We are especially eager to support graduate students, early-career scholars, K–12 educators, artists, and activists.
  • To participate in the workshop, we ask that you send us a full working draft of about 3,000–6,000 words. It does not have to be perfectly polished at this stage, but it should be a complete draft, with a clear central argument.
  • As part of the workshop, each participant will present a short summary of their main argument and an example of key evidence supporting it.

About the Journal

Kalfou: A Journal of Comparative and Relational Ethnic Studies focuses on social movements, social institutions, and social relations. The journal promotes community-based scholarship in ethnic studies among humanists and social scientists and connects the specialized knowledge produced in academe to the situated knowledge generated in aggrieved communities.

Kalfou is a frontrunner of interdisciplinary knowledge production and a gathering space for intellectual, creative, and activist work. This highly acclaimed journal breaks the pattern of treating each racialized group separately to instead create conversations among scholars in Black Studies, Latinx Studies, Indigenous Studies, and Asian American Studies. Throughout its history, Kalfou has persisted in its commitment to enabling our readers to understand the forces shaping our current world while also dreaming together about what a better world might look like and taking action to make that better world a reality. Toward these ends, the journal publishes articles that address asymmetries of power, social justice, new ways of knowing, and new ways of being.
